The Importance of Upgrades in World of Warcraft
Upgrades are a brand new type of item that can provide a boost to your stats. They can be used to upgrade trinkets, armor and weapons.
Upgrades to items use a system called "upgrade pity" to determine probabilities. This system is designed to lower chances of losing and provide a solid safety net when upgrading.
Armor

Note: The item used to upgrade your gear is destroyed forever. You cannot have multiple upgrades applied to one piece of equipment. Attempting to apply an upgrade with one already applied will cause the previous upgrade to be overwritten.
Upgrading your equipment is a great way to maximize the power of your gear and increase your damage, survival, and overall power. For instance, if have new Benthic gear from the War Within Mythic Dungeon, it will be level 385 by default and can be upgraded to a higher level by using [Prismatic Manapearls]. Upgrades for your PvE gear are account-wide, however upgrades for PvP gear requires a specific currency, such as [Valorstones] or [Harbinger Crestsor [Harbinger Crests]. The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade other items of gear in a particular armor slot is reduced after the first upgrade of that gear.
Weapons
Weapons are a crucial element of any successful character, whether they're used to ward off an intruder, kill an intruder, win a target shooting competition or simply hang on a wall. Ashes of War weapons are rewarded when certain bosses in raids are defeated. Other upgrades can be added to weapons that have Whetblades which are rare items that allow you to unlock new Affinities to infuse a weapon with.
Once a weapon has been fully upgraded, a player can continue to upgrade the weapon as long as they have the appropriate upgrade materials and currency. It is important to remember that weapons can only be upgraded to a maximum of 25. This means that players should only upgrade their weapons when they've acquired the maximum possible number of upgrades through regular and Whetblade items.
Trinkets
The Trinkets can provide a range of Boosts. They can be upgraded just like other equipment, through direct interaction with the Item Upgrader.
